Text Box: Principal Investigators and Cooperating Investigators
Scientists applying for grants must be recognized staff members of a G.I.F.-eligible institution with legal status. The Principal Investigators must hold a doctoral degree or equivalent. Graduate students may not submit applications of their own. Professors emeriti must submit a letter of approval from their institution together with their application.
Principal Investigators (P.I.s) must be specified in the proposal. G.I.F. prefers that there is only one P.I. per institution. If there are more, the contribution of each to the project must be explained in the letter of cooperation and listed separately on the project time schedule and the budget. G.I.F. preserves the right not to accept the additional P.I if the explanation appears insufficient. Each P.I. is required to submit a separate budget request.
Other investigators may be defined as C.I.s (Cooperating Investigators). C.I.s may be affiliated to one of the P.I.s' institutions or to separate ones; they can contribute to the project as technical experts, advisors or consultants, heading a service lab etc. They have no administrative or financial responsibilities. Retired academic staff may be included in a project as C.I.s. Current grantees will not be accepted as P.I.s.
We would like to stress that anyone mentioned as PI or CI may not receive a salary from the G.I.F. grant.
